Last night, KGNS began it’s version of a debate. Actually it was a half-assed, heavily edited “interview” format between Chuy Garza and Linda Garza-Martinez. Never mind that Garza was less than truthful about his accomplishments on the bench, his lies sounded like he meant them. And after all, isn’t that enough to keep our first-class local news media at bay? If Garza had criticism of Garza-Martinez, then we’ll never know. Garza-Martinez, as we’ve seen throughout the campaign, has had plenty to say about Garza’s judicial conduct. But we dang sure didn’t see any of that on the KGNS “love fest.”
It’s pretty sad, Lizardistas, when those charged with helping you make an informed decision refuse to discharge their responsibility. I seem to remember somewhere that there’s this thing called the FCC that require a certain amount of that sort of thing in order for a station to keep its license.
Sigh, at least is wasn’t a raffle!
So, rather than spend the next week ranting about why the local media won’t engage in the election cycle, or why so many thousands of people will go to the polls (willingly or for a taco plate) only to realize they have no idea who’s on the ballot, why don’t we just ask two simple questions here.
Do you think the local media keeps you informed on the Laredo/Webb County political scene? And, the obvious, “Do you plan to vote in the March 4 Democratic Primary.”
Oh yeah, please feel free to comment on your reason for answering either of these simple questions. Stay tuned.

unfortunately , they don’t have the balls to report real news. And every other interview they have will be the same. Not worth the time watching,

February 11, 2014 at 5:14pmAre you kidding me? The local news here is pathetic. They are more concerned about report who is stealing whose signs or who is placing them in the wrong corners. Not one of them has the balls to expose which candidates are lying on their platforms or which candidates have pathetic track records. Thanks God I am an educated, involved individual and I can find this information on my own.
KGNS and Fox (I actually had hope for them) should be more than ashamed of themselves for not having guts to report what is really going on and help our efforts to turn this place around. If I had to guess they are scared of not selling ads and well quotas have to be met. Pathetic. I own a business here and I am not afraid to show my face or express who I am supporting and I can end up in one of these jokers courtrooms in a lawsuit.
I am happy I moved back to Laredo after college because I want to help turn this town around. I hope everyone votes for the right people and not the ones who couldn’t hold their own on a 9 to 5.
